Sarah Spackman still life painting of a grey fruit bowl, with a pear and plums, sitting on a rich teal table and a grey background
Sarah Spackman Fruit Bowl Oil on Linen

In the exhibition ‘Objective Beauty’ Sarah Spackman continues to paint in her quiet considered way, underpinned by her guiding principle that good drawing is the basis of good painting, and that colour should be used to enhance the organisation and definition of observed space and form.

Her carefully selected subjects, a bouquet of garden flowers arranged in a studio vessel, a bowl of allotment produce, or vibrant sliced lemons, each come to life in the paintings. She explains: ‘Using colour to define the structure, I am looking for both clarity and richness. As Cezanne said, “Art is a harmony parallel to nature”.

Sarah Spackman’s practice is grounded in traditional principles and yet resonates with a contemporary meditative energy. Each piece is a close study in time, light, colour and space, as she reveals to the viewer the enduring beauty in the everyday, through her masterful handling of her chosen medium.

Sarah Spackman studied at Byam Shaw 1977 & Camberwell School of Art 1981. She is an elected member of the Royal Society of British Artists RBA, the Royal Institute of Oil Painters, ROI, and the Small Paintings Group

Her paintings have been selected for the Jerwood Drawing Competition, the NEAC, ROI, the RBA & the Discerning Eye Exhibitions

Sarah Spackman has exhibited at Sarah Wiseman Gallery since 2006, her paintings are enjoyed by collectors worldwide.
