Bliss Coulthard is a figurative watercolour painter whose work explores memory, love, loss and personal relationships. Drawing on moments from her own life, she creates atmospheric paintings that communicate emotions often difficult to express in words. Her paintings uncover the dynamic relationship between memory and narrative, revealing how revisiting the past allows us to see it through a new lens.

The inspiration behind Bliss’ watercolour paintings stem from a range of sources – childhood, Tim Burton films, heartbreak, the works of Marlene Dumas & Dorothea Tanning. Her painting process includes layering and the use of masking fluid, allowing her to add in new objects of interest as she works and tease out new narratives within the composition.

Bliss studied Painting at the University of Brighton before completing an MA in Illustration at the University of the Arts London (UAL). She now lives and works in London and recently won the Windsor & Newton x Paul Smith award.
