Atilla Olah’s ceramics are an homage to simplicity and an intimate engagement with materials. Inspired by Anglo-Oriental ceramics, heexplores the physical, conceptual and spiritual dimensions of the vessel while making.
Atilla’s process starts at the potter’s wheel. By resolving tension between the interior and exterior, he accentuates the minute differences in curvature, scale and ratio to create each vessel’s sculptural presence. He will then spray the glazes on, using cobalt, iron and copper, to create a tactile and speckled pattern in neutral tones.
Atilla studied Design at Liverpool Hope University and has since gone on to work under the wing of Catalan ceramic sculptor Claudi Casanovas and commercially as an ice sculptor at Glacial Art Ice Sculptors. He now runs Altar Pottery in Liverpool.
