Fiona Findlay originally trained in silversmithing and jewellery design, graduating with a BA Honours in 1997. Fiona has focused her work in recent years on her first love of ceramics, finding an immediacy with clay that metal does not always offer.  However her background in fine metalwork is never far away and is most evident in the scale and finish of highly collectable small ceramic houses.

These little houses start life on the wheel, being constructed of thrown slab, which lends an interesting character to their surface, they are then cut from the clay with the features being individually carved. These small pieces feature many familiar elements of architecture, the shape of a window or the line of a roof reminding us of Dutch houses or Crofters cottages, simple churches, or little houses from illustrations. They have a very compelling nature and look very charming on their own or choose a few to build your own street.
