Angie Lewin: Nature Study

Sarah Wiseman Gallery is thrilled to present an exhibition of printmaking by renowned British artist Angie Lewin. We first started showing work by Angie in 2013 to great success, and this solo exhibition has been two years in the planning. Visitors can expect to see a mixture of new prints, as well as others from older editions.

Angie has grown to be one of the UK’s most sought after artists with her work collected and admired avidly. Based between the Scottish and Norfolk coasts, much of her work is inspired by plant-life found in these unique environments. Spiked seed heads and nodding grasses form much of the character of her work – architectural plant forms are what interests her most, with each intricate detail observed.

Her interest in the bold shapes of mid-century design and the distinctive fluid styles of British artists like Eric Ravilious are also influences. Her muted pallet with punches of stronger colour gives Angie’s work a vintage feel that is instantly recognisable. Angie’s work is also found in fabric designs made by St Jude’s, a textile company she and her husband run together.
