Painter and illustrator Charlotte Hardy finds inspiration in decoration and pattern found in the everyday, creating paintings that explore arrangements of pleasing design and colour such as flowers in vases, curious shop-fronts and window displays that draw the eye, interiors and chandeliers. Her work is both loosely expressive and closely observed as the brushwork is kept simple and straightforward but also contains studies of wallpaper design, textile pattern or the decoration of ceramics. Interested in life's little pleasures, her work has a whimsical quality to it, a delightful richness which is reflected in her artistic process. Using elements of collage on canvas or paper and painting in acrylics and inks on top, she creates an interestingly layered, textural surface.

Charlotte's background in textile design is unmistakable in her sense of composition and her focus on the decorative elements of her paintings, lending them a certain ornamental flatness and refining the shapes into a subtle pattern.

An elegant colour palette, often in rich blues and greys with splashes of vivid colour, makes for exquisite artworks, strikingly graceful and with distinctive style.

Charlotte Hardy studied art at Winchester School of Art before graduating with a First Class Honours degree in Textile Design from Manchester Metropolitan University. She has since worked as an artist and illustrator of book covers and editorial content.
