Since a young age, designer and ceramicist Fliff Carr has had a fascination with collecting objects and her work is inspired by the idea that artefacts represent remnants of personal histories. Fliff's ceramics are shaped and informed by collected objects as well as details from antique book illustrations and lace.

"My work is mostly thrown and hand-rolled domestic ware. I use white earthenware clay, an opaque vellum or transparent glaze over coloured slips and underglazes. Each piece is unique, whether in form or detail, and I try to allow for spontaneous invention. I enjoy the subtle shades of intricate details of vintage fabrics and the textures of old lace as well as 'found objects' from the banks of the Thames. I apply these sources of inspiration to my work as embossed, stamped or inlaid detail."

Fliff started to explore ceramics at the City Lit in London in 1992. Since then she has been making ceramics full-time in her own studio, exhibiting in galleries and craft fairs throughout the UK.

Sarah Wiseman Gallery is delighted to stock the 'Birds and Lace' range which is exquisitely pretty in its charming details of vintage imagery and old lace patterns. Each piece is hand crafted and has a treasured, heirloom quality to them .
