- A Sarah Wiseman Gallery Project

Oxford

Sarah Wiseman Gallery is branching out from its Summertown gallery and is hosting a collaborative art exhibition by Emma Jagare and Clare Tottem at The Old Bank Hotel, Oxford.

‘This is a really wonderful and unusual opportunity for us to undertake; we were offered the use of this new space by Marie Jackson at The Old Bank and I thought lets do something different, something that we could not achieve in our normal gallery space, something unexpected.’

WHO KILLED COCK ROBIN?

This will be the first of a series of short-term, unique events held in unexpected places in Oxford and the surrounding area, called ‘Art & the City’. The idea is to encourage people to interact with art outside of the normal gallery space, and enjoy a vibrant new Sarah Wiseman Gallery experience.

Emma Jagare and Clare Tottem

The two artists Emma Jagare and Clare Tottem came together to work on this project, creating a poetic landscape in porcelain. The installation has been inspired by the history of the hotel – it’s origins as a bank – and their preoccupation with the life and structures within the natural world.

When visiting the exhibition, visitors will be delighted by elements of fairytale mystery: delicate woodland creatures, flowers, birds and their nests mixed together with discarded cages, bells, gold bars and coins – somehow all connected to a macabre event.

The artists both live in Oxfordshire and met through art teaching. They are regular exhibitors at Sarah Wiseman Gallery and have shown their work widely in the UK and abroad. Emma Jagare has an MA in Ceramic and Glass from Royal College of Art, London and Clare Tottem an MA in Ceramics from Cardiff University.

The Old Bank Hotel in the heart of oxford's vibrant, creative entertainment community is opening new private dining and meeting rooms which they generously donated for this short exhibition.

The gallery and boardroom, adjacent to the hotel are available for meetings, conferences and private events from October 8th 2007. Please visit their website for more information http://www.oldbank-hotel.co.uk/
